Cavapoos are a combination of a Cavalier King Charles and a Poodle. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a beautiful even-tempered noble breed that has its roots in English history, but is also among the top shedders. The Miniature Poodle is a wonderful athletic companion with a curly, hypoallergenic coat.
Mixing the two breeds results in a gorgeous, healthy dog with both Cavalier and Poodle qualities in a low to non-shed coat. Like all doodle breeds, Cavapoos learn quickly and are highly trainable.
Cavapoos do well with families, singles, and seniors. However, they thrive on human companionship and would not be suited for those planning to leave them alone while at work or for long periods of time.
At Taylor Made Puppies, we specialize in breeding red and white Cavapoo puppies. They are medium to low energy with a non-shedding, allergy-friendly, easy-to-manage coat, and are very smart, eager, social, and happy puppies.
They love to be part of the family, and like our Mini Goldendoodles, are energetic and playful, but also have a wonderfully quiet, calm demeanor when it's time to chill.
History - The Cavapoo was created by Breeders who wanted to mix the outgoing and calmer nature of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with the intelligence and non-shed qualities of a Poodle. Breeders continue to create Cavapoos in all colors as demand for them has climbed.
Sizes - Typical adult weight can range between 9-25 pounds and average between 9-14 inches tall, depending on the size of the Poodle.
Activity Level - These dogs have a moderate activity level. They do well with plenty of exercise but are also very happy to chill on the couch with you.
Colors - Cavapoos can be cream, fawn, chocolate, gold, chestnut, and white. They can also have interesting patterns and colors, such as tri-color, parti (bi-color), sables, abstract (small amount of white) and/or phantom, dependent on the color traits of the parents. Merle is a pattern rather than a color. Merle appears as patches of light and dark colors mixed. The merle pattern is especially in demand for Cavapoos.
Generations - The F1 generation is achieved by breeding a Cavalier and a Poodle. It is thought to be the best in terms of health benefits because mixing two completely different breeds minimizes the hereditary diseases carried in the individual breeds in the puppies and is also the most stable for coat type.
The F1B Generation is the crossing of an F1 Cavapoo with a Poodle, and is thought to be better for allergies because of the higher concentration of Poodle. Generations beyond the F1B are still fairly rare.
Grooming Requirements - Like all Doodles, Cavapoos will require grooming every 2-3 months, depending on the curl of their coat. Curlier puppies will require grooming about every 2 months, while wavy puppies can usually go about 3 months between groomings.
